While it seems like Prince Harry couldn’t possibly have any more stories to tell, reports have emerged that the royal could be gearing up to release even more chapters of his explosive memoir, Spare.
The Duke of Sussex has said that there will be no sequel to his best-selling book, but according to Page Six‘s sources, he hasn’t ruled out releasing some bonus material in the paperback edition. “Prince Harry is already planning to add at least one new chapter…to the paperback version…out later this year or early next, when the hard cover sales have ended,” they said. The insider added that “readers are eager to know [Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle’s] feelings about the royal backlash they have suffered after the airing of their Netflix doc, and the publication of Spare.” However, a representative for Harry shut down the speculation, telling the outlet emphatically, “That’s not true.” The memoir’s paperback release also has yet to be announced.
Should he decide to add a chapter or two to the fastest-selling nonfiction book in history, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Harry won’t have to look too far for new material. He previously told The Telegraph that, “The first draft was different. It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.” He went on to note that a lot of things didn’t end up making it to print because he feared it would worsen the rift between him and his family. “There are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know… Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me,” the royal explained.
And yet another reason Harry might not be ready to speak about the potential release of even more personal anecdotes is that he’s still busy promoting the original. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert released an unaired 10-minute clip on Wednesday morning from the royal’s previous visit to the talk show last month. In the segment, Harry takes “The Colbert Questionert,” facing a round of rapid-fire questions so that the host could get to know him better. During their conversation, the prince revealed that his favorite smell is “his wife,” that he would like to be reincarnated as an elephant, and that his favorite sandwich is a “cheese and ham toastie with dijon mustard on top,” but only if it’s made in a proper “toastie machine,” of course. And he concluded the segment by sharing the five words he thinks best describe the rest of his live, telling the audience, “freedom, happiness, clarity, space, love.”
