Prince Harry couldn’t be more thrilled to be a father and wants to make sure his two children, Archie and Lilibet, always know just how loved and cherished they really are.
Throughout the first three episodes of the royal couple’s new Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the Duke and his wife Meghan Markle regularly share anecdotes about their kids, as well as some never-before-seen family photos. At one point, Harry specifically addresses the fact that his children will be the first mixed-race members of the royal family and how important it is to him that they know that he loves and supports them. “My son, my daughter, my children are mixed race, and I’m really proud of it,” he said. “When my kids grow up and they look back at this moment and they turn to me and say what did you do in this moment—I want to be able to give them an answer. I think it’s such a responsibility as human beings that if you bring a small person into this world that you should be doing everything that you can to make the world a better place for them.”
While the couple have worked hard to protect their young children’s privacy since moving to Montecito, California and stepping down as senior royals, there are still some intimate family moments sprinkled throughout the episodes. In one clip, Archie watches some birds and takes in the sunset from their home’s balcony, and in another Harry reads a storybook to his son and daughter on the couch. Meghan also shared a selfie of her cradling Lilibet in what appears to be a nursery and one of Archie resting his head on her pregnant belly, as well as a shot of Harry kissing their newborn.
Earlier this week, at a gala held by the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights organization honoring him and his wife for their contributions to the fight against racism, Prince Harry shared a bit about the couple’s home life, joking with the event’s host Kerry Kennedy, “I’ll be honest with you, Kerry, I just thought we were just going on a date night, so I found it quite weird that we’re sharing the room with 1500 people!” He added, “We don’t get out much these days because our kids are so small and young, so this is completely unexpected.”
During a surprise appearance on a video call with this year’s winners of the WellChild Award in October, the Duke also gave a little update on his two children, telling one of the young boys on the call, “You sound just like my son Archie, with that little squeaky voice. I love it.” Later on, the boy asked him how Archie and Lilibet are doing, to which Harry replied, “Archie is very, very busy. And Lili is learning to use her voice, which is great.”
And according to the royal’s longtime friend, professional polo player Nacho Figueras, Harry was born to be a dad. In 2019, shortly after the birth of his first child, Figueras said that the Duke is “a natural, he knows what to do.” He added, “He’s already an amazing father. He’s always loved kids. We have been friends for a very long time and I’ve seen him spend time with children in all the things we do for Sentebale, so I never had a doubt about it. He loves children. He’s really happy.”
