Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to California back in 2020, we have gotten the occasional glimpse into how Harry is adjusting to the west coast lifestyle, like the time he rapped along to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song with James Corden. This week, Meghan told Variety about one way that Harry has truly become a local. In an interview for their cover story, the duchess said that Harry loves eating at local favorite In-N-Out Burger.
“My husband’s favorite is In-N-Out,” she said. “There’s one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods. It’s really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them. They know our order.”
Meghan divulged the tidbit while explaining how she and Harry structure their workdays. Usually they work from home in Montecito, the exclusive Santa Barbara enclave where they count Oprah and Rob Lowe among their neighbors. “We share an office. We work from home, as most people started to do during lockdown,” she explained. “It allows us to have significant time with our kids at this really special moment in their lives. We’ll never get this time back. I make breakfast, and we get the kids set for the day. We do a lot of joint calls and Zooms, but also try to divide what we can focus our energies on so we can accomplish even more.”
When Meghan and Harry have face-to-face meetings, they have to drive pretty far to get there. “People sometimes think we live in Los Angeles, but we’re a good two hours outside of it. We’re commuters. We drove down recently for a day of back-to-back meetings , equipped with chocolate chip cookies the size of my toddler’s head.”
The interview took place after the couple returned from attending Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in England, so she also spoke about grieving with her husband’s extended family. “There’s been such an outpouring of love and support,” she said. I’m really grateful that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time.”
