During the Platinum Jubilee weekend, Peter Phillips’s two daughters Isla and Savannah were stars of the show when they were photographed playing around with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But the two great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth weren’t the only ones who posed for the cameras. Peter, the son of Princess Anne, made his official debut with his new partner, Lindsay Wallace, at the Epsom Derby on Saturday. Wallace also accompanied Peter to two other jubilee events, the Platinum Party at the Palace that night and the Platinum Pageant the next day.
The public debut of their relationship comes more than two years after Peter announced his divorce from Autumn Phillips, who he married in 2008. In a long-sleeved floral dress and white hat, Wallace looked right at home at Saturday’s horse race, where the couple were joined by Anne, his sister Zara Tindall, and her husband Mike. Anne and her children were attending the derby in the place of the queen, who was reportedly watching the races at home.
Later, at the Platinum Party at the Palace, Wallace and Phillips were also joined by Autumn Phillips, who sat on the other side of Isla and Savannah. Peter and Autumn announced their separation in February 2020 and finalized their divorce in June 2021. At the time, a spokesperson commented that the ex-spouses priority was their children. “They continue to put the wellbeing and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla first and foremost,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Both Peter and Autumn are pleased to have resolved matters amicably with the children firmly at the forefront of those thoughts and decisions.”
Wallace’s connections to Phillips and his family date back decades. She was a classmate of Zara’s at Gordonstoun, the exclusive boarding school in northern Scotland that also counts Prince Charles and Prince Philip among its alums, and according to the Daily Mail, they rekindled their friendship at a recent class reunion. Peter was a few years ahead of them at Gordonstoun. Wallace was also a guest when Zara married Mike in a July 2011 ceremony in Edinburgh.
The Mail reports that Wallace, a stay-at-home mother of two and the daughter of an oil tycoon, separated from her husband last year, but the two have not yet finalized their divorce.
According to an insider who spoke to the Sun, Phillips introduced Wallace to the queen back in January, after he threw a shooting party in Windsor. “The Queen is one of the most important people in Peter’s life so it’s only right that he introduces Lindsay to her,” the insider said. “It was a very warm meeting and the Queen was clearly delighted to meet someone who makes Peter so happy. It may still be early days but Peter wanted his grandmother to see he was happy.”
The insider added that it looks like the relationship has become serious. “It is a clear sign that Lindsay has now been firmly welcomed into the Firm and a major first step if they were to ever choose to get married.”
