Prince George may not have been able to attend a British girl’s sixth birthday party this week, but his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, still made sure the young royal sent his regards.
George was sent a birthday party invitation that he couldn’t accept, but the young girl’s mother shared his parents’ polite response to the note on Twitter, per Hello!. A staff member for the royal couple wrote, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked me to thank you for your letter, in which you invite Prince George to your 6th Birthday party. I am sorry that it took so long to reply. Their Royal Highnesses were extremely grateful for your kind invitation. Having given careful consideration to the possibilities, however, I very much regret that Their Royal Highnesses reluctantly feel they have to decline. Nevertheless, I hope that you enjoyed your birthday.” They concluded, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were immensely touched that you should take the trouble to write as you did to their son, Prince George. It really was most thoughtful of you and Their Royal Highnesses have asked me to send you their warmest thanks and best wishes.”
George had his own birthday celebrations last month and, as is tradition, the royal family released a new portrait of the prince in honor of him turning 9 this year. Kate took the portrait of her son flashing a huge smile at the camera during their UK family vacation earlier in July. The Duchess also took last year’s birthday portrait of George depicting the future king sitting atop a forest green Land Rover wearing a blue and orange striped polo. The image is thought to be a subtle tribute to the royal’s late great-grandfather Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99. Land Rovers were a favored mode of transport for George’s great grandfather, and a specially equipped custom version of the car transported his casket during his funeral.
Prince George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are likely too busy to attend any birthday parties at the moment anyway as it’s believed that they are currently in the process of moving from their home in London to Windsor. The reported relocation is thought to be motivated by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s desire to both be closer to Queen Elizabeth, who has been living in Windsor Castle since the onset of the pandemic, as well as Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who live in nearby Bucklebury in Berkshire. It is believed that the royal family will live in the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate, which will provide their children with plenty of space to run around outdoors.
