After a wild card entry to Wimbledon last summer, Emma Raducanu clinched a U.S. Open singles title, sparking a career whirlwind. “It took me a while to understand what sorts of emotions I was feeling,” the 19-year-old explains in a phone call this spring, during a lull after practice. The British tennis player has a sunny candor, as she describes her sudden arrival into the limelight—something of an out-of-body experience. “It was like it’s two different people: You’re watching someone else do it, but then you realize that it’s yourself,” she says. “That’s pretty cool, in a way. It gives me confidence that I can actually achieve those things.”
These past few months have kept Raducanu on her toes. Dior Beauty tapped the tennis star for a campaign, and she joined Dua Lipa—another phenom on the world stage—for an Evian spot. In March when we speak, Raducanu is shaking off an injury scare; now, a recent strain has her moving cautiously toward Wimbledon 2022, which begins June 27. But Raducanu has cultivated her means of release, including yoga (“I feel like it sets a great tone to the day and just flushes everything out”) and Epsom-salt baths (“a great reward after putting in a tough day training”). Mid-match, one calming strategy “is to center your breathing,” she adds—a tall order amid full-court sprints. Her daily routine is an anchor too, from breakfast to face wash.
Rise and Shine
7:30 A.M. “My electric toothbrush was a bit of a hassle to travel with, so I went manual.”
8 A.M. “I go to bed thinking about breakfast. I love smoked salmon; Greek yogurt is great. I try to set my day up with fruits, protein, and some carbs, especially because I’m working out.”
8:15 A.M. “I’m a big coffee and tea person. One thing I love is frothed soy milk. I actually travel with my frother because it’s a priority to me!”
8:30 A.M. “I take probiotics because gut health is big for me. I’ve definitely noticed a difference with my skin and general mood.”
9:15 A.M. “If I want a little color on my lips, Dior Addict Lip Glow gives me just a bit of life.”
Court Time
11 A.M. “On my body I use a Supergoop! SPF spray—I don’t want the grease on my hands because it’s tough to hold the racket.”
12 P.M. “I find myself training in all white by accident, but I’ve stuck to that.” For similar Nike shorts, see the link below.
12:30 P.M. “I found these dried dragon fruit in Australia. And energy gummies—it’s good motivation to train because you get to basically eat sweets.”
1 P.M. “I have a routine in terms of how I do my hair before a match. It’s not that complicated, but I tie it up with a middle parting and then, depending on how long my hair is at the moment, I’ll do a fishtail plait. One thing I really use is hairspray.”
Unwind
6 P.M. “Because I’m an athlete, I obviously sweat a lot. La Mousse Off/On really refreshes my face.”
6:30 P.M. “I’ve always got to rush into a press conference or training, so showering for me is quick. Aveda shampoo has always been in the family.”
6:45 P.M. “Recently I’ve been really lucky to have worked with a few great hairstylists. Christian Wood cut my hair the other day. Before that, my mom was actually cutting my hair in lockdown.”
10:30 P.M. “I make sure to put my phone away. I feel like it keeps your brain wired and active.”
11 P.M. “I’m on the hunt for the best pillow, but I like a silk pillowcase. It’s really nice on my face.”
